The international success of rental karts by OTK Kart Group has also arrived in Australia, more precisely in Sydney. The reasons for this choice on the part of a historic facility operating since 2013? The owners of the facility, Adrian and Atef Estasy, explain them.

What features and services define your centre?

Ultimate Karting Sydney is a centre dedicated to karting for hire, consisting of an indoor track 450 metres long and up to 6 metres wide. Operating since 2013, but under new management from 2020, it represents a benchmark for those seeking adrenaline and fun, with rental karts, in Australia. In addition to the track, our facility offers numerous complementary services designed to make the experience complete and accessible to all. Among the offerings available, we propose:

• An in-house cafeteria, called "Juicy Goose", offering cuisine with hot dishes, snacks and pizza, in true pub style.
• Event spaces, with dedicated rooms for birthdays (with full catering), team building and corporate meetings.
• A small games room: for moments of fun outside the track.

The overall team has 25 members, divided between 20 kart track operators and 5 professionals serving coffee. In terms of track activities, Ultimate Karting Sydney caters to a wide target group thanks to the availability of karts for every age group. 

What criteria guided the selection of the rental karts that make up your fleet and how do you structure the maintenance schedule?

Our fleet consists of 30 rental karts, divided between 15 karts for children (aimed at drivers aged between 7 and 14) and 15 karts for adults (for karters aged 15 and over), all Viper Kart branded and manufactured by OTK Kart Group. We are one of the first centres to choose Viper Kart rental karts because of their:

• Structural reliability
• Handling and performance
• Excellent after-sales service

Maintenance follows a strict schedule, with complete checks every 30 hours of use, carried out by professional mechanics trained in-house. We use high-quality products, such as oils and technical spare parts, to ensure long life and high performance. When the karts reach the end of their operational cycle, they are then resold as a used, well-maintained fleet, thus optimising the return on investment. 

What strategies do you adopt to promote your rental karting centre and build customer loyalty?

We have developed a loyalty programme structured on two different plans:

• Silver (for those who have done at least 50 races): 3 years' membership, one free session and discounted rates on weekdays;
• Gold (for those who have done at least 125 races): lifetime membership, two free sessions and discounted rates every day.

On the promotional front, we adopt a multi-channel strategy:

• Social media is undoubtedly the most effective 'avenue', due to its broad reach and ability to engage.
• Official website and Google Ads
• Leaflet distribution 

In addition, we optimise internal customer management through:

• Well-trained staff, capable of filling multiple roles within the structure
• A reception area staffed by professional and friendly staff, to improve welcome and loyalty
• A reliable and well-maintained fleet, to greatly improve session efficiency and overall centre productivity.

In the light of your experience, what operational advice would you give to an entrepreneur wishing to enter the rental karting sector?

Opening a rental kart track requires planning and targeted investment. The advice we would give is:

1. Invest in the fleet, buying new, quality rental karts
2. Invest in quality tyres and asphalt
3. Use a good barrier system and design the track carefully to drastically reduce downtime, accidents and maintenance work.
